Acute Encephalopathy with Undetermined Causes.

Abstract

|
|
|
Fourteen cases of acute encephalopathy with undetermined causes were experienced. Among them, 11 cases(79%) were under 5 years old and no sexual difference was noticed. The onset season of illness was between summer and autumn, and the clinical findings on admission were loss of consciousness in all cases, diarrhea in 19 cases, vomiting in 7 cases, convulsion in 6 cases, fever in 5 cases and hepatomegaly in 3 cases. Gastroenteritis and dysentery were preceded to or complicated with the diseases in 7 cases and no preceded disease was recognized in another 7 cases. The leukocytosis in pheripheral blood was observed in 12 cases and other laboratory examinations were within normal limits in most cases.
